Phi Theta Kappa General Meeting Minutes May 3, 2004 Project Graduation - May 12 collecting non-perishable food and gently used books. Deb McLaughlin says boxes are here but need to be decorated and placed at collection points. Enough boxes for one in each building. Building I - student lounge, Building 2 - student lounge upstairs, Building 3 - Public Safety, Building 4 - Public Relations. Ask Dr. Armstrong or Brian if can store collected items in their office. Collection boxes will also be available at graduation rehearsal. May 12 Graduation at the Mark - rehearsal at noon. PTK will have a table at rehearsal to sell cords, stoles, etc. Commencement workers are needed--please meet at 6 pm at the Mark by the stairs. Jan Oliver and Judy Hardesty offered to help but still need 2 or 3 more people. Public Relations Office - see Holly Smith about volunteer opportunity this summer! Next International Convention - April 2005 Dallas Tx. Registration, travel and hotel included in budget for officers to attend. Project Vote Smart (from International Convention 2004) is non partisan political get out the vote campaign. See Diane Mc Carthy. College project ideas Fall - Spring 2004: Need to set a meeting with Holly so she can present to Dr. Miller. Suggestion to tartet incoming honor students at BHC and send PTK representative to area high schools in the Fall 2004. Illinois Leadership Conference June 4 - 6, 2004: For incoming officers. Let Holly Smith know if you plan to attend by 5/12/2004. Concert tickets: e-mail Terry Timmons Relay for Life: e-mail Deb McLaughlin Need 15 team members - Olympics Theme Volunteer Opportunties this summer: Energy Expo June 4-5 Profits generated from these four volunteer opportunties will be donated to Relay for Life College for Kids suggestion: donut holes, juice boxes, cereal bars, milk, maybe breakfast pizza Betty VanDusseldorp suggested contacting United Township's National Honor Society about possible presentation to honor students. Contact to set up meeting. General membership also suggested to contact Moline and Rock Island high schools about presentation to their honor students. Rose Hernadez is Black Hawk College contact person for incoming high school graduates for Fall 2004. Treasury report, Terry Timmons: $5,788.00 but need to pay Holly Smith for outstanding expenses. Holly will contact Terry with the total. Other summer plans'suggestions: Adopt-A-Street by BHC Michael Carton will ask about the two streets by BHC Vote to accept changes to By Laws: After discussion the clause about officers can only hold office for one year was excluded for further discussion. The by laws without the length of office held clause was passed. Part-time students vs full-time students holding office were discussed, how to encourage more members to attend meetings, and run for office. Finally, the clause as written was accepted by majority vote but the right to change at a later date was reserved.
